News and Notes

Testing a new section on the blog is my weekly playlist...
A summary of what cool tunes I am either listening to or just plain dig this week.

1. Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy    It is from their self-titled 2008 album. Hailing from St. Albans/Hertfordshire UK. The danciness of this track really keeps me motivated during a long day.

2. Benjamin Diamond - Baby's On Fire     Mr. Diamond, from Paris, France released this trackin 2008, 2 ways...as a 12" single and a basic cd single. Again uptempo dance/techno(which isn't my usual favorite format), helps keep things flowing.

3. White Rabbits - Percussion Gun     From Brooklyn through Missouri, this group release this second album "It's Frightening" in 2009 too critical acclaim. This specific track keeps things moving for me while cruising down the highway.

4. The XX - Crystalised     A little downtempo from the others above in the list, but still very good. Off the self-titled debut XX, it is the 3rd release from the 2009 disc. The whole album is great with this track standing out on top.

5. Passion Pit - Sleepy Head     A tad industrial, some electropop, a pinch dance, a scoop of weirdness keeps this track fresh for me after being out since 2009. The Cambridge, Ma 5 piece group's debut "Manners" is where to find it.

6. Nirvana - You Know You Right     Released 8 years after Kurt Cobains' death this is my favorite song from my favorite band. Hidden away with all kinds of other previous recordings, this gem almost made it on In Utero...It should have, who knows what might have happened. Chilled then Aggressive then chilled again...really shows what a great band they really were, and the depth of a songwriter Cobain was.

SC. Gov. Sanford at microbrewer to tout beer sampling law

Associated Press

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

SPARTANBURG — Gov. Mark Sanford is promoting a new law allowing people to sample beer at South Carolina microbrewers.

The ceremonial signing is Tuesday at R.J. Rockers Brewery in Spartanburg. Sanford signed the bill into law five weeks ago.

Microbrewery owners say it could make the state a travel destination for beer connoisseurs. Brewer’s Association president Jaime Tenny says the state has five microbreweries. But she expects the craft brew business to increase under the law.

The measure allows samplings and onsite sales only if customers take a tour. Each tourist can buy up to a case of beer per day. Brewers say they hope customers like what they sample, buy some to go, then ask for it later when they go out.

State law already allows wine and liquor tastings.

Evolution Craft Brewery - Delmar, Delaware

While filling my growler, I got talking to the Bar-guy and asked about the outdoor setting area I had heard was possibly in the works...He said it was a go and they took measurements for it a day or so ago, and it will be in the front of the Brewery near the main entrance. Also while there I saw the Haymaker was getting ready to be tapped, in 2 weeks(July 14th or so) and Lot #6 DIPA was coming in about a month...The best news for me was that the Lot #3 bottles were coming to the mid-Atlantic area in about 4-6 weeks...I love this beer...It is the "Best" IPA I've had to date, and I've had many. So keep in the loop about Evolution Craft Brewing through me on the Blog. Support your Local Craft Brewery's, I Do.
